founded:

November 2018

Focus:

community development, academic, health + WASH programs, mentorship, mental health support, vocational training, agricultural development, disaster response and preparedness training

Meet our partners and friends, Carlos and Anita, who founded the Arabu Community Center in La Ceiba, Honduras in 2018. Carlos grew up in the city of La Ceiba, Honduras and after high school, moved to Costa Rica where he met his wife, Anita. Anita was at university studying criminology and social work and Carlos was studying and working in the outdoor adventure industry. Then an opportunity to move back close to Carlos’ home presented itself - they were given 300 acres of family acreage in the mountains near underserved populations and started dreaming about a sustainable, local community. Anita and Carlos moved back to the family land in Honduras and started Arabu Community Center to invest in their neighbors in the surrounding villages. Arabu offers academic and health education, agricultural development, mentorship and mental health support. By increasing access to these basic human needs, we can help empower Arabu’s neighbors through community development and social entrepreneurship.

RNG is currently partnering with Arabu to construct a bridge to provide easier access to the Arabu, and new buildings for volunteer housing, vocational training and counseling offices and Carlos and Anita’s family residence. Visit our blog to watch videos of Anita giving a tour and sharing the vision of Arabu.

Meet our partners and friends, Belinda and Kike who run Ascenso, based out of Siguatepeque, Honduras. They started Ascenso to mentor youth through adventure sports. Kike and Belinda lead outdoor trips in the mountains and are building a climbing gym in Siguatepeque. They also support mountain villages outside the city by offering WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygeine) programs. Many of these villages suffer from flooding during hurricanes and RNG is currently partnering with Belinda and Kike to offer disaster response training for their team to enable them to respond to events like hurricanes and flooding. We also have helped raise funds and donated supplies for the indoor climbing gym.
